Walkaround Video Here:
Designed by EEZI-AWN, a global leader with over 42 years of roof tent expertise, the Xplor redefines what's possible in a clamshell design. Purpose-built to be the most spacious hard shell roof tent on the market, the Xplor combines intelligent engineering, expedition-grade materials, and class-leading comfort — setting a new benchmark for overlanding in New Zealand and beyond.
Note: When comparing this model to roof tents marketed as “designed in NZ/Australia,” look closer. These are typically generic imports, rebranded for the local market, and offer performance similar to our SUB60 — a solid mid-range option. For those seeking truly premium performance, our globally proven brands are in a league of their own, with unmatched materials, durability, and proven performance in all conditions worldwide.
Class-Leading Space and Comfort
Generously sized at 2.3m long by 1.5m wide, the Xplor delivers an internal mattress area of 2.2m x 1.38m — dimensions that exceed the external measurements of many clamshell tents on the market. It's perfect for taller users or anyone wanting a significant boost in interior space within a clamshell format.
But it's not just about length and width — the smart design of the Xplor maximizes internal volume, giving a spacious feel typically only found in larger, bulkier models. Ideal for couples, and potentially suitable for a small family with a child.
Premium Build. Expedition Proven Global Brand
As with all roof tents offered by Xpeditionz, the Xplor is built to the highest standards. Materials, craftsmanship, and comfort are all at the top of their class.
-
Canvas: Dual-layered, 260gsm core-spun poly-cotton, Teflon-infused at the mill — EEZI-AWN’s proven formula for long-term performance in all climates. EEZI-AWN canvas has been known to still be in use after decades. N.B. Where dual-layered that's equivalent to 520gsm! But even better as it's in two distinct layers, with the inside layer sheltered by the outside layer.
-
Mattress: A generous 80mm SABS-approved foam mattress, up to twice as thick as those in many competing tents.
-
Shells: Top and bottom aluminium shells are insulated for year-round comfort and reduced condensation.
-
Aerodynamic Profile: Sloped shell designed for airflow and load capacity, with welded top tracks for mounting solar panels, load bars, or roof racks.
Smart Functionality & Electrical System
-
Modular Fly: In calm conditions, the canvas fly can be unzipped, rolled, and stowed for panoramic views and better airflow.
-
Integrated Power System:
-
USB-A and USB-C charging ports
-
Dual Anderson plugs — one roof-mounted for solar input, one underside-mounted for external power supply
-
National Luna dual-colour LED lighting (white/amber) with convenient switch control — a trusted name in overland power systems
-
Lightweight, High-Spec Construction
Despite its size and high-end build, the Xplor weighs only approximately 82kg — including the mattress and ladder. (Note: when comparing, some competitor tents list weights excluding mattress and ladder.) The result is a tent that delivers exceptional interior space and comfort at a relatively modest weight for such a fully featured and large tent.
